Match Report 1- First word to the winners, the Blues
Under black skies and torrential rain on a Saturday in Bangkok, giants clashed, legends were born, and pride was restored.
In decades to come, grandfathers will bounce grandchildren on their knees, regaling them with stories of this momentous day. The less principled senior citizens will embelish their roles in the event, claiming significant contributions based on no more than the fact they happened to be in Bangkok on the day, although were otherwise indisposed, and that they happened to own a Tigers polo at the time...
But surely the adulation and renown that will inevitably endure from the day rests solely with those eight heroes clad in Blue...
Or maybe not.
Anyway, for the record...16 out of the 21 guys who actually confirmed turned up, on a raining afternoon (although the rain stopped by match time).
The game was eight-a-side on a slightly shortened ground.
The Blues clicked.
The Reds didn't.
By three quarter time, it was down to 6 Blues and 5 Reds due to injuries and other attrition.
Stewie's hamstring gave him another four minutes to try to recapture the glory of days gone by before it decided it wanted another four week rest. Thwaiter got bitten by a Dog and needed seven stitches. Wagga had to go watch the rugby. Niggling injuries forced another couple to the sidelines.
Common sense...or simple lack of interest...led to the result being declared on the three quarter time score, giving the Blues an emphatic win.
A half-hearted attempt at training drills lasted for about two minutes before all drifted off for a beer.
After all, the one that really counts is next week...
Match Report 2 - Last word to the losers , the Reds
A spokesman for the Reds advises they will do their "reporting" this Saturday, 9th June, at Patana.
